We will be adding on to this section from time to time. A few of Harriet's grandsons were very interested in the Antique shop, but others were less interested.
Currently, Kyle is starting to sell off his 7 Arts Antique Shop collections and collectibles. After starting to collect at a very young age and having a difficult time getting rid of things, he now realizes it is time ...not to mention his remarkable baseball card collection starting from the 1940s thru 1960s.
This is a picture from the original Salisbury Ct Flea Market in 1967. Here Harriet is teaching her grandson Kyle how to tell the difference between authentic handmade antiques and reproductions. It was a lot to learn for a 10 year old....But these lessons served Kyle well for the next 50+ years!
Kyle's father Sandy Alan Haver was a remarkable mentor and coach. Sandy had an eye for unique and authentic antiques and used his gifts as a Madison Ave AD man to describe each item as if it was the only one ever made...
Kyle worked in his grandmother's store since the age of 10. Part-time at first, and then weekly during the summers. Harriet taught him the business, how to research and understand codes and maker's marks. He learned American History through the study of artifacts and he loved it... He asked to be paid in Antiques, collectibles and signed Norman Rockwell prints , etc. All of this before eBay
Kyle was also an active buyer for 7 Arts Antique Shop traveling to auctions, tag sales, flea markets, and thrift stores all along the east coast (and beyond.)
From the 1960s thru the 1980s working in 7 Arts Antiques Kyle met some of the most remarkable artists and customers who stopped by the store and chat. Many of these stories will be captured in the Memories section of this website.
Alice Brock, from the famous movie "Alice's Restaurant" and her restaurant also had a food booth a the Fall Harvest Festival at the Berkshire Garden Center... and she always made time to greet us (me)
Alice's restaurant was next to 7 Arts Antiques and was a daily adventure when I worked in the shop. I was always greeted by a big smile and a very warm (and close!) hug... the kind of hug that a young adolescent boy can look forward to!
Captured by a street photographer on 42nd Street and Broadway, Kyle poses with all his brothers and cousins for a reall NYC adventure in the 1970's. An interesting time to come of age in NYC's Time Square !
A classic and iconic painting of the 7 Arts Antique Shop building by Norman Rockwell...
Seven Arts Antiques is also captured in this Norman Rockwell inspired jigsaw puzzle. This iconic store's image has been used on lights, plates, holiday ornaments, needlepoint and cards. It is an internationally recognized image.
Stockbridge was a remarkable place to be in during the 1960s and 1970's when the music and arts scene exploded. Not only did we attend these concerts, many of the artists actully came into 7 Arts Antiques before or after their perfomances- more about that later!
It wasn't only the rock starts and famous choregraphers from Jacob's Pillow that came into 7 Arts Antiques, to did many of the soloists from Tanglewood. Here is a picture of a young Van Cliburne playing in Tanglewood's music shed. He came into the store often when he was in the Berkshires...
The Berkshire Music Barn was a center for innovative Jazz and Folk music since the 1950s and 1960s. It later became the Music Inn where there were contemporary concerts that made Lenox feel like a weekend WOODSTOCK MUSIC FESITVAL that often conflicted with the classical music of the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood. More about the Music Barn and the Music in later...
