Memories of Harriet's sons Sandy Alan Haver and Thomas Haver
* More to come *
Sandy Alan Haver, Harriet's oldest son, loved the search for the unique item. One of the original "Mad Men" from Madison Avenue, Sandy was known to tell the story of a unique item on a small white price tag. Here is a picture of him at the Salisbury Flea Market back in the 1960s.
Tom Haver, Harriet's youngest son,was a remarkable buyer. Known for his buying at house sales and auctions, Tom knew the business and continued to find items for the Antique Store. It was not uncommon to find time searching house sales in between his professorship and his office hours...
Flea Markets, auctions and tag sales were a family event. When in full force, Harriet would have about 10 buyers joining her at flea markets - and/or searching the Berkshires for the just-right item to be placed in the store. Not only her two sons, Sandy and Tom, but also their wives and sons were enlisted- often with a specific list of items to search for.
In addition to 7 Arts Antiques, our family was involved in starting the Easter Flower fund, a non-profit educational fund that was based upon the profits from our annual easter flower sale in Lyndhurst, NJ. Here is a picture of Sandy once again using his sales skills to describe the extra large geraniums that were specially grown for us at the Monticello Greenhouses in Monticello, NY.
Tom Haver loved selling Easter Plants and was the main buyer for all the plants we sold in Lyndhurst, NJ at our great Aunt Fan's hardware store.
Tom also loved adding his creative charm to everyone's easter candy basket. Here he is pondering his next Easter Rabbit verse filled with rhyme and reason. As a child, it was great to get a basket filled with goodies with a unique message from Tom Bunny.
